  • A lost little bird wobbles onto a riverbed, right where a leopard cub is busy playing. The bird, knowing nothing better, walks right up to the leopard!

Benji Solms, guide at Serondella Game Lodge, captured the great escape on camera and shared it with LatestSightings.com.
"One of the resident female leopards in the area had made a kill on the banks of a dry riverbed. Her cub had joined her during the night and was now in the same river bed as the kill. We had been watching them for some time, and the little cub seemed playful as it ran up and down the river sand."
"It all changed in a heartbeat when a few goslings appeared at one end of the river bed. They were walking straight to the leopard and her cub, and they had no idea! The cub noticed the movement, but luckily for the little goslings, they went into thicker bush. One gosling then decided to come out into the open, and that’s when the leopard went for it."
"The gosling was able to use our vehicle as some cover and went under the vehicle. However, as soon as it came out from under the leopard, it caught it and ran off with it. The smart little bird played dead, and that’s when the leopard let it go. But as soon as it ran off again, the leopard pounced and once again caught it!”
"The leopard then took its prize up into a nearby tree, and we all thought it was the end for the little bird. Playing dead still, the gosling found itself up a tree and helpless. But luck truly was on this little one’s side, and he fell out of the tree. The gosling still playing dead, lying on the ground, hoping it will put the leopard off."
"To everyone's surprise, the leopard remained in the tree, closely watching the gosling. Seizing the moment, the gosling took a chance and ran towards the thick bushes where its siblings were hiding. Disappearing into the dense bush, the gosling successfully escaped the leopard, leaving the predator unable to locate it again."

I love this channel because there is no dramatic narration, no dramatic music bed, no dramatic editing, no dramatic super slow motion. In other words there are no Hollywood tricks of the trade to amps up the entertainment value of the content and anthropomorphizes the animals . I feel I have learned more about these creatures, their behaviors and their habits in the 2 years of watching this channel than in 57 years of watching nature documentaries.

We saw something similar on safari in Botswana. A lioness and her cubs were lying near a water hole. She got up grabbed a hapless turtle in her jaws and gave it to her cubs, presumably to practice something with. They played with it for around half an hour, tipping the poor thing upside down and rightside up. But never once produced their claws. Of course we all assumed it was dead. Then, even to our guides amazement, mumma lion batted her cubs aside, picked the turtle back up and carefully deposited it back at the edge of the water, where it did a sort of turtle equivalent to shaking itself off and it just scuttled back into the water and swam off! Nature is endlessly fascinating.

Actually animals have a sense of sustainable survival thinking. On a safari in namibia one guide told us that lions rarely attack e.g. pragnent animals (only if there are really hungry). Because they know it is going to save their future. They told us also that the animals sense the rain season early and start to reproduce a few month before because they now there will be enough food/grass to grow their calves and lions or hunter reproduce as soon as they sense or see pregnant preys.
Its clear that the leopard was well fed and just playing around but also knows its better id the chicken survives for now

When the truth is no one can read and experience directly, the leopard's mind.
Human beings like to force their own subjective interpretations onto anything and everything in the entire objective universe. Subjective truths then literally become their objective reality. It's kind of like how human beings like to praise and idolize all sorts of idols and representations of divinity/enlightenment (after vilifying and persecuting every single one of these world teachers first)...rather than actually seeking out divinity themselves. Either someone else fully responsible for their own salvation, or someone else fully responsible for all the bad things within their own lives. Because deep down they are terrified of freewill and self-responsibility and absolute objective truths, and are much more comfortable with their own endless subjective truths/lies.

The leopard has most likely already eaten and played with the duckling a bit, big cats sometimes play with their food. The fact is that the leopard knew that the duckling was alive, it could kill it from the moment it put it in its mouth, but it was careful not to crush it. The duckling was literally like a little candy to him. If the leopard still did not eat anything, it was simply not worth wasting energy for such a small prey, animals always judge whether it is worth attacking. That's why he let the duckling go, it was a simple distraction.
